How to Get a Custom LCD Quote: 8-Step Guide
How to quote a custom LCD module: the 8-step process from requirements to mass production, a spec checklist, NRE explained, samples in 15–25 days, MOQ 500+ and the drawings and certifications that keep rework out of your schedule.
Eight gates between your drawing and a shipment
A custom LCD quote is not a price — it is a program. Ours runs eight documented steps: requirements → spec confirmation → quote and NRE → sampling → sample approval → pilot run → mass production → shipment. Every gate has an owner, a deliverable and a calendar number attached to it.
Most delays in custom display programs come from step one done poorly: a missing drawing, an unstated brightness grade or an interface mismatch starts a re-quote loop that costs 3–5 days per round. The checklist below is the same one our engineers use when your inquiry arrives.

- NRE — tooling and engineering quoted up front, transparent, one-time.
- Samples — 15–25 days for custom builds; 7–15 days for standard models.
- Production — 20–35 days after golden-sample approval, MOQ 500–1,000.
Steps 1–4: requirements to golden sample
The first half of the program defines what you are buying. Each step below takes your input and returns a locked deliverable — do not move to the next gate until the previous one is signed.
1 · Requirements
Send size, resolution, interface, brightness, temperature grade and annual volume. Customer cooperation: attach your mechanical drawing or a photo of the mounting area.
2 · Spec Confirmation
Engineering returns a datasheet draft: active area, outline, FPC length, pinout and driver IC. Customer cooperation: confirm the electrical fit with your MCU or SoC.
3 · Quote & NRE
Price per piece plus any one-time NRE for 2nd-cut tooling, custom backlight or firmware. Customer cooperation: approve NRE scope in writing before tooling starts.
4 · Sampling
Custom samples built from your drawing in 15–25 days; standard models in 7–15 days. Customer cooperation: test samples under your real operating conditions.
Steps 5–8: approval to shipment
The second half scales the approved design. These gates are calendar-driven — once the golden sample is signed, the production clock starts.
Sign-off within 5 working days
Optical, mechanical and interface sign-off; we hold your signed sample as the production reference. Customer cooperation: sign or list changes within 5 working days so the tooling freeze holds.
10–50 pcs on the production line
A pilot run validates the real line — AOI inspection plus 100% powered-on test on every unit. Customer cooperation: approve pilot units and confirm final cosmetic criteria before the full run.
Full run in 20–35 days
Production runs against our monthly 500K–1M module capacity with batch QR traceability. Customer cooperation: lock the forecast so glass and driver allocation is reserved for your program.
ESD packaging, QR trace, incoterms
Antistatic trays, sealed export cartons and FOB Shenzhen, CIF or DDP handover. Customer cooperation: provide the shipping schedule and any destination compliance documents.
What NRE pays for, and why it is transparent
NRE (non-recurring engineering) covers the one-time setup a custom display needs: 2nd-cut glass tooling, a custom backlight mold, driver firmware and test fixtures. It is quoted line by line before work starts — never hidden inside the unit price — and it is yours to keep, so repeat orders pay only the piece price.
Standard models that need no tooling skip NRE entirely: MOQ 500 pcs, samples in 7–15 days, production in 20–35 days. Custom formats add the NRE line and extend sampling to 15–25 days, with the MOQ at 500–1,000 pcs depending on the 2nd-cut yield.

- Validation — temperature and optical test reports on the first build.

Pitfalls that delay custom LCD programs
Five failure modes we see repeatedly in incoming inquiries, each with the calendar cost attached.
+3–5 days per re-quote round
Outline, active area and FPC route guessed instead of drawn. A dimensioned PDF or STEP file removes the entire first revision loop.
Wrong backlight, +7–10 days for the swap
A 300-nit indoor panel is a different backlight assembly than a 1,000-nit outdoor one. State ambient light and viewing distance with the inquiry.
Driver rework, +5–8 days
MIPI lane count, RGB bit depth or LVDS channel mapping must match the host. Send the MCU/SoC model so we pair the driver IC correctly.
Unplanned 2nd-cut tooling cost
Custom shapes and bar formats require tooling. Seeing the NRE line in the first quote keeps the program budget honest.
Forced redesign mid-production
